First post for Talking Rugby Union
I'm pleased to have been asked to write for Talking Rugby Union and have made my first contribution with a proposal that playing wing for the All Blacks is the most competitive role in the sport.
Some truly elite players have been cut loose from the All Blacks when it seems like any other team would be salivating at being able to select them. Julian Savea is the latest casualty of this surplus of talent, having accepted a contract from Toulon in France.
It's demonstrative of the sport as a whole that you have to keep right at the top of your capability or you'll be moved on. Being an All Black winger is probably the closest there is to the 'next man up' culture of the NFL in this respect. There's always someone else!
