'talent' development @ Oxford Brookes

This was a really fun session!

I presented my career journey, from my first ever time playing rugby as a 6 year old to a retired pro player turned writer and startup employee to a graduate group of Sports Psychology students.

We went through the ups and downs of my rugby pathway, the sliding doors moments that every player experiences and the thinking behind building my career post-sport.

I spoke about my career for the first part of the session, accompanied by slides and a very old highlights video, taking questions from the lecturer along the way and then opening the floor to the students towards the end. Then we dedicated time to talking about building their careers.

The students were going to graduate into an extremely competitive and desirable workplace, not dissimilar too the cut-throat world of sport, and I tried to give them a few frameworks and principles through which they could stand out from their peers, including using content to pitch for a job, combining diverse interests to draw attention or using personal development projects to meet key decision makers.

You can see the slides here.
